At Cana, then, the New Eve radically reverses the fatal decision of the first Eve. It was \u201cwoman\u201d who led the old Adam to his first evil act in the garden. It was \u201cwoman\u201d who led the New Adam to His first glorious work.<\/p><p>The medieval poets summed up the matter neatly by pointing out that the Angel Gabriel\u2019s Ave (the Latin greeting) reversed the name of Eva. New Testament through ancient Jewish eyes, we see a new Exodus and Ark of the Covenant. Eve received the news of death and pain and the curses of Adam;  Mrs Noah was the one who escaped death, with a new covenant which promised no more destruction on such a scale.  The name of her husband,  \u201cNoah\u201d, means \u201crelief\u201d:  he brought a relief from the curses of Adam, by the ark and by wine.<br><br>\nNoah\u2019s ark offered salvation by wood.  It had never been used before and was used only once.  It was made to exact instructions from God Himself.  All humanity was lost unless gathered into its commodious three decks. But in spite of these shocking beginnings she was bride to the king, and mother to the king. It is from her that the idea of the \u201cQueenship\u201d of Mary comes to us. She interceded with her husband and was enthroned at the right hand of her son when he ruled.
