Primary Course 01

You should find lots of material here from which to make lesson plans
in preparation for the Production of the Play.

This course can be divided into sections according to your and your students' time.

The Magic Fairy

Description:

In this course the students can have fun with a warm up song. Then the students say words beginning with A, B and C with facial expressions and body language. This is a good preparation for their acting in the play, in which the students have to imitate the noises and movements of various animals while speaking English.

 Course Objectives:

At the end of the session the student will be able to:

  1.  Revise the sound of letters /A/ and /a/ correctly.
  2. Name some words that begin with A.
  3. Ask someone’s name. Know how to say their name. Introduce oneself.
  4. Use the articles /a/ and /an/ correctly.
  5. Ask about abilities, e.g. “can you swim”.
  6. Produce and perform the play, ‘The Magic Fairy’ together.
  7. Use vocabulary correctly.
  8. Have fun.

    Materials:

    Unit 3

    Greetings

Write Hi, Hello, Goodbye and Bye on the board. Get students to repeat after you.

Show flashcard of waving and shaking hands. Then ask “what are they doing?”

Hi is less formal than hello.

    Hello

Hello is the most common greeting in English, and it’s more formal.
Saying hello is correct for both formal and informal situations.

    Good morning

“Good morning” is both a formal and an informal greeting.
We use the greetings good morning from sunrise to noon.

    Good afternoon

“Good afternoon” is both a formal and informal greeting.
We can greet both friends and strangers.
We say good afternoon from noon to 5: PM.

    Good Evening

“Good evening” is both a formal and an informal greeting.
We say good evening from about 5 PM until midnight
After Midnight we already say “good morning”.

    Unit 4

    Animals

Flashcards: Give the students flash cards with pictures and words: Fairy, frog, fish, elephant, monkey, bird, horse – see below.
Show the children how to mime these flashcards using movement and sound – for example gabbling and miming climbing a tree and hanging from a branch like a monkey – or galloping round the room and neighing like a horse.

You can also get each child to choose a partner and arrange her/him in positions and moving them – for example flapping their arms to represent a flying bird.

Get a pair of students to demonstrate to the class. Let them take it in turns to do this. Get the students participate as soon as possible.

The students can look at their flashcards to guess the answer.

They can ask questions for a “yes” or “no” answer.

Making the story. Who do you want to be? Who wants to be the fairy?

The teacher encourages one of the girls to choose to be her. Give her the fairy flashcard. Explain the fairy can do magic tricks with a wave of her wand and making the magic noise. Do it and get her to copy. Ask what animal would you like to be?

Ask why do you want to be that? If necessary prompt: ‘Because I want to jump, swim, carry people, fly, gallop ………..’

Which boy would like to be a monkey? Choose a boy. Ask him why do you want to be that?

What do you want to be? Show the flashcards to choose from to the rest of the children and let them chose in turn. Why do you want to be that? Then help to inspire them.

At the end each child holds his or her flashcard.
    Unit 5

    Drama Game

Drama has rehearsal and performance and is a good way for the children to cooperate, become confident and have fun and learn English.

Teacher prompts student to repeat for example: ‘I want to be a fish because I like to swim through the water.’ If necessary Teacher prompts again: does motion and says ‘I’m a fish.. I can swim.’ Student repeats.

Do the same with the following:

‘I want to a frog so I can jump’. Jumps and says I’m a frog.<

‘I want to be bird so I can fly to the sky’. Flying motion and ‘I’m a bird’

‘I want to be an elephant so I can carry people’. Carrying another child on his/her back and ‘I’m an elephant.

‘I want to be a horse so I can gallop’. Gallops/ runs and ‘I’m a horse’.

Note: Perhaps the children will hang the flashcards round their necks, and around each other’s necks or they can make masks when they do the play. Hopefully their parents will help them.

The teacher then says ‘Now let’s do the fairy do magic’.

The teacher prompts the fairy to wave her wand and make the magic sound and say to the monkey ‘I am going to turn you into a frog’.

The teacher then prompts the fairy to say ‘excuse me’ to the child that had the frog flashcard and give it to the monkey who now becomes a frog.

Prompted by the teacher this child jumps up and down and says ‘I’m a frog!’

Prompted by the teacher the fairy says to the frog ‘you can do magic too – who do you want to change?’

    Then we repeat the process:

The new frog turns to the horse and prompted by teacher says, ‘I turn you into a fish’. The new fish says “I’m a fish’ and swims round the round the room. Then the new frog says to the new fish ‘you can make magic too’ and so on from fish to elephant, from elephant to horse, from horse to bird and from bird back to monkey,

At the end the others surround the fairy and say, ‘thank you for giving us magic’. They then turn to the teacher and say: ‘Thank you teacher.’
